FreightMatch continues as independent platform Bulkio

For many years, Van den Bosch has been offering transport orders to more than 800 bulk carriers via its successful online platform FreightMatch. Supported by the experience gained from within Van den Bosch, FreightMatch is now ready to continue independently. As a digital platform with a new market approach and unique services in the world of bulk logistics, FreightMatch will carry on under the name Bulkio.

Bulkio is aiming to reduce the number of empty trucks, trailers and containers on the road. Bulk carriers drive up to forty percent of the total distance with an empty trailer. The new platform matches those empty miles to available bulk transports by making smart use of data, while taking into account the specific requirements that apply to bulk transport. This benefits all the parties: carriers can drive more full miles and shippers have shipments carried out at a favorable rate. Bulkio is now available to anyone who offers bulk transports.

Technological growth

The platform has grown strongly over the past five years. “The team has delivered an outstanding performance”, says Pirke van den Elsen, managing director at Bulkio. “At the moment 25,000 shipments are placed on the market every year. The fact that other parties are now able to post bulk shipments - in addition to Van den Bosch - will further accelerate growth. The technology behind the Bulkio platform is designed for this. Thanks to the support of eighty parameters, advanced algorithms and smart sensors, the team can quickly find the right matches.”

Future

“The success for Van den Bosch proves the potential benefits for other shippers”, says Van den Elsen. “With the right use of technology, we are building a large network of carriers and shippers that we can bring together. This enables us to reduce the empty miles for carriers, as well as the transport costs for shippers.” Van den Elsen is looking forward to the new challenge: “With this new name and this new product, we will change the market for the better.” Rico Daandels, CEO of Van den Bosch , is equally enthusiastic about the new platform. “The team has done a great job. I am pleased that we have been able to share Van den Bosch’s knowledge and experience in order to set up a new, innovative company. I wish Bulkio every success.”
